Finance, Beyond the Generic
-By: Benjamin Luna-
Most personal finance advice out there is incredibly generic. We've all heard "make sure you save" or "money doesn't grow on trees". This so-called advice points us into a never-ending spiral of self doubt and to something perhaps even worse, which is no idea where to go next. When advice is designed to apply to everyone, it usually ends up helping no one. I'm starting The Fiscal Review for this exact purpose, to move past the general advice and provide realistic, helpful, and informative guides for everything finance. I like to say that general advice is for general people, and that we all have specific goals, meaning we need to move beyond the vague to a sharper, high-yield lens. A freelancer navigating inconsistent cash flow needs a completely different strategy than a student looking to hedge against inflation. Before you accompany me on this journey of finance, one disclaimer stands between us. I am not a financial advisor or a corporate suit. I am a researcher. I spend time digging through all the data and learning the in's and out's of invaluable topics. I don’t have a vested interest in selling you a specific banking product or a high-commission fund. The financial landscape is changing faster than the textbooks can keep up with. Traditional paths to wealth are shifting, and the "standard" advice from twenty years ago is becoming increasingly obsolete. If you’re tired of the one-size-fits-all money talk and you're ready to look at finance as a set of systems to be understood rather than a set of rules to be followed, it seems we are on the same page.
Let’s get to work.
